Introduction to the equipment and the basics of backcountry skiing. We’ll start slowly, learning how to move, turn and control your skis before heading into the snow-covered landscape.
We start on the open, flat surface of a frozen lake, giving you time to get a feel for the skis and practise the basics without any challenging terrain. It’s a relaxed way to build confidence before moving into the forest.
Once you’re comfortable, we leave the lake and enter the forest. On gentle terrain, you’ll practise moving uphill, downhill and around small changes in the landscape, learning how these skis behave in soft snow.
With the basics in place, we continue deeper into the snowy forest. You’ll get a taste of what backcountry skiing is really about: travelling quietly through winter wilderness, away from prepared trails and crowds.
We make our way back at an easy pace, using the terrain you’ve become familiar with along the way. A final chance to enjoy the skis, the forest and the quiet Arctic surroundings before finishing the tour.
