Leave the lights of Ylläs behind for a small-group night snowshoeing adventure through silent forests, with the chance to see the Northern Lights under the Arctic sky.
The experience
As darkness falls, we'll leave the lights of Ylläs behind and head into the snowy forest on snowshoes. Familiar landscapes take on a completely different atmosphere at night, with snow-covered trees, deep silence and only the light of our headlamps around us. Along the way, we'll stop at a traditional kota to light a fire, warm up with hot drinks and grill some sausages. Away from the lights of the village, we'll take time to look up at the night sky and watch for the Northern Lights. Even when the Aurora doesn't appear, the quiet of the winter forest after dark makes this a very different way to experience Ylläs.

Your adventure
Every route remains flexible. Your guide adapts it to snow, weather and the group.
Meet your guide at one of our meeting points. After a short drive to the trailhead, we fit you with snowshoes, poles and a headlamp, and walk through the basics so you feel comfortable from the first steps in the dark.
We walk through snow-covered pine and birch forest, away from artificial light. The snow often reflects enough moonlight or starlight that you barely need the lamp. Your guide shares stories of Arctic wildlife, winter life and the night sky.
Depending on the weather and Northern Lights forecast, we'll choose the best place to spend some time under an open sky. We may climb above the tree line for wide views across the fells, or head out onto a frozen lake where the horizon opens in every direction. Away from the lights of Ylläs, we'll have a good chance to take in the night sky and, if the conditions are right, spot the Northern Lights.
We'll reach a traditional wooden kota and light a fire to warm up. Enjoy hot drinks and grilled sausages while sitting around the fire, sharing stories and taking in the atmosphere. If the sky is clear, this is also a good moment to step outside and look for the Northern Lights.
After the break, we'll make our way back through the winter forest, taking our time and enjoying the night around us. With the lights of Ylläs still out of sight, we'll have one last chance to look up at the sky before returning to the starting point.
The itinerary and order of activities may be adjusted based on weather and logistics to ensure an optimal and safe experience.
